LEARN TO ROW FLOATS EVERYONE'S BOAT

They may not be potential Olympic champions (yet) but the graduates of NRC's first Learn to Row course throroughly enjoyed their ten weeks splashing about on the river Weaver. In spite of the summer's unpredictable weather, the course has been a huge success, with eighteen people taking up their oars at the beginning of June and fifteen completing the course.

Run by club secretary, Laura Hind and coaches Rachel Hooper and Mike Bulmer, Learn to Row aimed to take a group of beginners and teach them the basics of rowing before offering them the chance to fully take up what can often seem a demanding and difficult sport.

The course finale was a 'best of three' regatta and barbeque, attended by many club members and friends and families of the new oarsmen and women. Joined by some experienced rowers for the racing, it ended 2-1, with the winning crew made up of Ellen Preece, Zoe Walker, Dave Booth, Graham Williams, Martin Horne, Kevin Over, Barbel Howarth, Carolyn MacRitchie and cox, James Morrison.
